6 inspiring facts about KeepCalling at its 16th birthday

KeepCalling has turned 16! Yes, the sweet 16 is truly special for us and it makes us realise what we have accomplished in this long, not always easy, but beautiful road. Whenever we look back, we treasure those moments when it all began, with all the excitement and curiosity that come with a new business taking shape. We couldn’t have done it without our amazing customers, so thanks everybody! And here are some truly inspiring facts about KeepCalling that you may or may not know:

It all started with Florin Miron, a Romanian journalism graduate, who in 2002 was working as a video editor for Habitat for Humanity in the US. He was looking for accessible ways to call his family and friends back home. Florin turned from being a potential customer looking for good offers to call home, to an enthusiastic entrepreneur organising a business.

The first investment in the business was of only $100. At first, Florin bought the actual phone cards himself and scraped the PINs to deliver them to the customers. He turned his crib into a home office, crowded with heaps of calling cards, and got busy teaching himself ecommerce and web tools.

After a while, KeepCalling became the story of four people, as Florin Miron turned to his friends for help with the new business. His international friends, actually. So… the company gets to have three offices, in Sibiu (Romania), Cochabamba (Bolivia) and Atlanta (Georgia, USA), with the headquarters located in Sibiu.

From 2002 ‘till now, in 16 years of activity, the company turned from being focused on Voice service only, to adding Mobile Recharge as well, for a full customer satisfaction. And still that wasn’t all. In 2016 Tello was launched! This new mobile provider on the US market offers fully customisable products at the lowest rates possible. By now, KeepCalling has grown into 72 sites performing in 21 languages. Now that’s what we call diversity!

A total of 4.633.971 accounts were created during the 16 years of activity. If you come to think about it, you’ll almost end up counting the population of New Zealand.
